The South African cricket team may have been exposed to the novel coronavirus after it was reported that the hotel they stayed in also hosted Indian singer Kanika Kapoor, who on Friday was tested positive for the pathogen, Times of India reported.

According to the publication, the singer returned to her homeland from London and attended a large gathering at the hotel where the South African team was also staying ahead of their now scrapped ODI series against India.

"She was living there at a time when the South African team was staying in the hotel for the ODI match, which eventually was called off," an official said.

Following their return on Wednesday, players were told to observe strict medical protocol, social distancing and two-weeks of self-isolation, in order to prevent the virus from spreading.
