In light of the growing coronavirus pandemic, the Indian government is leaning towards cancellation of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 but would let organisers decide if they want to play the tournament behind closed doors, AFP reported on Friday.

"I think it is for the organisers to decide whether to go ahead with it or not," Dammu Ravi, additional secretary, MEA and coordinator for COVID-19, said.

"Our advice would be to not do it at this time but if they want to go ahead, it is their decision."

According to details, a meeting will be arranged on Saturday to determine whether the cash-rich T20 event will proceed as per schedule.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans on staging a full season of the tournament to the extent that the board will move the tournament to a new country if needed, and with limited rosters.
