PSL 2020: The almost impossible qualification scenario for Quetta Gladiators

Quetta Gladiators are currently last on the Pakistan Super League (PSL) points table with just one match left in the round robin stage.

However, a win over Karachi Kings tonight will give them 9 points — similar to the four-placed Peshawar Zalmi's tally.

Then, it will come down to the net run rate, which means that Quetta needs to beat Karachi by a massive margin, since their NRR of -1.052 is significantly worse than Zalmi's -0.055.

According to statistician Mazher Arshad, this is what Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Quetta needs to do against Karachi in order to qualify.

"For Quetta to qualify, they will need to beat Karachi by about 148 runs or chase target in about 3 overs. Exact figure will be known after the first innings is completed," he tweeted.

As it is clear, both the routes towards qualification are nearly impossible and evoke's the situation that the Pakistan national team (also led by Sarfaraz) were in the World Cup last year.
