Classy Babar Azam and brutal Sharjeel Khan helped Karachi Kings on Thursday avenge (and then some) their painful defeat to Lahore Qalandars from last week, as they inflicted a heavy 10-wicket defeat on the side from Punjab in their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 encounter at National Stadium.
Chasing 151, the Karachi opening pair toyed with the Qalandars bowlers, both scoring half centuries in the successful chase. Sharjeel finished with a 59-ball 74 and Azam with 46-ball 69.
The target, on a decent Karahi pitch, was never going to be enough for a Karachi side that possesses arguably the best top four in the league.
Earlier, Lahore wasted a decent start, managing to post just 150-5 despite their openers providing a 49-run stand. The Qalandars’ two main foreign batters, Chris Lynn and Ben Dunk, had a rare off-day and that reflected in their side’s total.
Lahore captain Sohail Akhtar, who is slowly starting to justify the faith shown in him by the franchise, top scored with a 49-ball 68.
The victory means that Kings are now second on the points table behind only Multan Sultans.
