Peshawar Zalmi vs Islamabad United PSL 2020: March 7, match 20

Islamabad United would have felt a little hard done by when they lost by 7 runs to Peshawar Zalmi today in the 20th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium despite having a slight edge.

Peshawar Zalmi were 85-2 after 9 overs in pursuit of a 196-run target when rain interrupted the match. Zalmi's best player Kamran Akmal had been dismissed and Islamabad must have felt confident about their chances, even though the young Zalmi duo of Tom Banton (20) and Haider Ali (16) were looking pretty decent.

After the rain, Zalmi were declared winners by DLS method as they were ahead by 7 runs.

Earlier, some outstanding bit of hitting by Shadab Khan and some atrocious bit of fielding by Shoaib Malik helped former's Islamabad United to 195-5.

After Peshawar won the toss and opted to field first, Islamabad were dealt the opening blow in the very first over when in-form Luke Ronchi was dismissed by Rahat Ali.

Shadab walked in when score was 41-2 and played a true captain's knock (77 off 42). He was helped by Colin Munro (52) and Colin Ingram (41 off 25).

While Shadab made his name on the day, Zalmi's Malik spoiled his, dropping two easy catches, which was surprising since he has been one of the better Pakistani fielders.

The start of the match was delayed as the ground conditions were not ready for play due to a wet outfield.

The toss, which was originally scheduled to take place at 1:30pm, eventually took place at 1:55pm and the match will now kick off at 2:15pm.

This week's matches are under threat as the Pakistan Meteorological Department had predicted that several parts of the country, including Rawalpindi and Lahore were "likely" to receive "widespread heavy rains, thunderstorm winds (with hailstorm)" until Saturday due to a "strong westerly weather system".
