Peshawar Zalmi skipper Wahab Riaz on Friday defended the inclusion of opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq in the team, saying that he will be the side’s main player in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 matches.

Riaz, while speaking to press, said that despite Imam’s paltry seven runs in the last match against Quetta Gladiators, he was still "one of the best players" and should not be judged on the basic of of a "bad day".

"Imam is one of the best players who has played for Zalmi. He was the second-highest run scorer last year," he said.

"Unfortunately, we were not able to make space for him earlier but the team needs him now. It doesn’t matter if he couldn’t score in this game. Good and bad days are part of the game. Imam will win us the upcoming matches."

The skipper also lauded the newly appointed head coach Darren Sammy for his "enthusiasm" and credited him for the franchise’s success.

"Credit goes to Sammy for the way he led Zalmi for three years. He is the one who will still be leading the team. He has proved to be a very enthusiastic coach as he was repeatedly conveying messages to players in the match against Quetta," Riaz added.
