MIRPUR: Pakistan’s emerging batter Haider Ali showcased his brilliance in the ongoing 11th edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with a swashbuckling knock, which included four sixes on the trot.
Haider, representing Chittagong Kings in the ongoing franchise league, scored a quickfire 48 not out from just 18 deliveries to guide his side to an important five-wicket victory over second-placed Rangpur Riders in the recently-concluded 37th match, played here at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.
His match-winning knock featured one four and six gigantic sixes with runs coming at an astounding strike rate of 266.66.
The Pakistan international walked out to bat when his side was reeling at 63/3 in 10 overs and needed 81 runs in the remaining overs.
He batted cautiously in the early phase of his innings before switching gears after 17 overs.
The equation had come down to 24 required off 18 deliveries but Haider Ali, facing compatriot Akif Javed in the 18th over, did not hold back and smashed the left-arm pacer for four consecutive sixes to steer his side over the line with 14 balls to spare.
His match-winning knock helped him claim the Player of the Match award.
Notably, Haider’s cameo also trumped compatriot Iftikhar Ahmed’s unbeaten half-century. The middle-order batter top-scored for the Riders with 65 off 47 deliveries, laced with seven fours and three sixes.
However, his efforts went in vain, thanks to Haider Ali’s scintillating knock.
