KARACHI: Emerging top-order batter Shamyl Hussain smashed his maiden first-class double century and powered Pakistan Television to a massive 367-run first innings lead over Eshaal Associates on day two of the fourth round of President’s Trophy Grade-I here at the NBP Sports Complex on Monday.
The left-handed batter smashed 29 fours and four sixes on his way to 229 off 274 balls.
Shamyl Hussain also shared an anchoring 163-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Muhammad Shahzad, who scored his second consecutive and fourth overall first-class century as he struck 12 fours and four sixes in his 126-ball 104.
Their valuable knocks helped PTV to declare their first innings on 531-9 in 114 overs.
In response, Eshaal Associates were 46/2 at stumps as they trail by a further 321 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
At the SBP Sports Complex, Khan Research Laboratories’ (KRL) Waqar Ahmed backed his double century in the previous round with an anchoring century against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).
The opening batter scored 122 off 185 balls with the help of 17 fours as KRL finished the day at 266/7, trailing by a further 68 runs.
Earlier in the day, SNGPL resumed their first innings from an overnight score of 302/8 and added 32 more runs to their total, thanks to Saifullah Bangash.
The wicketkeeper batter scored an unbeaten 111 off 177 balls with the help of 16 fours.
Arshadullah was the standout bowler for KRL, picking up four wickets, while Shahid Aziz supported with three scalps.
Experienced batter Umar Amin struck his 35th first-class century to power the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to a handy 54-run lead over the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).
The SBP resumed their first innings from an overnight score of 23/2 through Amin and top-order batter Ali Shan in response to WAPDA’s 250.
Amin remained the top-scorer for the SBP with 136 off 241 deliveries with the help of 15 fours and two sixes.
At the UBL Sports Complex, top-order batter Sameer Saqib’s unbeaten 82-run knock led Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) to a crucial 290-run lead over Ghani Glass at the conclusion of the second day’s action.
Sameer will resume OGDCL’s second innings from 225/3 with skipper Adil Amin, unbeaten on 42.
