DUBAI: India’s top-order batter Smriti Mandhana on Monday, was adjudged as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2024 for her consistent stellar performances in the format.

Mandhana beat out tough competition from Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu, Australia's Annabel Sutherland and South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt to bag the prestigious accolade.

The left-handed enjoyed a remarkable year with the bat, which saw her accumulating a mammoth 747 runs in 13 matches at an impressive average of 57.86 and a decent strike rate of 95.15.

She also scored four centuries in the previous year – the most by any batter in women’s ODIs – and scored more than hundred boundaries – 95 fours and six sixes across 2024.

Mandhana showcased her brilliance in the format with back-to-back hundreds in India’s 3-0 series win against South Africa in June, followed by a crucial ton in the series decider against New Zealand in October.

Smriti Mandhana’s standout century of the year came away from home in December as she scored 105 against the world’s top ranked team, Australia.

Her century, however, could not lead India to victory but was enough to push the defending World Champions close at the WACA in Perth.

The left-handed batter’s consistent performances in the format also placed her at the top of the run scorers charts in the ICC Women’s Championship – the ODI table which will decide the qualifying teams for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
