Pakistan's Test opener Ahmed Shehzad on Wednesday, made a startling claim as he alleged senior players for ‘hating’ him due to his good looks.
The right-handed batter, who has been out of the national team since 2019, has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of the green shirts and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
In his recent appearance in a podcast, hosted by actor Ahmad Ali Butt, Shehzad alleged his senior players for getting ‘jealous’ due to his personality and dressing sense.
“Being good-looking has cost me a lot. In our field, if you look good, know how to dress, and speak well, senior and former players start getting jealous," said Shehzad.
"I didn't know this before. I've been playing cricket since childhood, and I never thought people would judge you for things like looking good. You end up making enemies in places you can't even imagine," he added.
His statement came just days after he lashed out at the PCB for including his name in the local category of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 draft, held earlier this month.
Ahmed Shehzad, who last represented Quetta Gladiators and announced his retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2023, criticized the move, labelling it a publicity stunt by the PCB.
"PSL 10 is going to happen, and the interesting thing about it is that I am also playing. For the last three or four days, it seems like I am part of PSL. Are you happy now with the hype? Why don't you talk about those players for whom you have set everything aside in the last four to five years?" Ahmed questioned.
