JOHOR: Alice Walsh’s quickfire cameo helped Ireland to knock Pakistan out of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup with a narrow 13-run victory in the rain-hit fixture here at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval on Wednesday.

The green shirts, who had their campaign opener washed out against the United States of America (USA), lost both their remaining fixture and England and Ireland respectively and thus finished at the bottom of Group C standings with one point.

Ireland, on the other hand, joined table-toppers England and USA in qualifying for the Super Six stage, comprised of 12 teams, divided into two groups.

In the must-win clash, Pakistan needed 73 runs in nine overs to advance further in the 16-team tournament.

The green shirts, however, only managed to 59/7 in the allotted overs despite a promising start.

Openers Fatima Khan and Komal Khan laid a solid foundation for the run chase as they had piled up 24 runs in 2.1 overs.

But Fatima, who was the core aggressor of the budding stand, had an agonizing end to her innings as she got run out after scoring a seven-ball 10.

Following her dismissal, Pakistan lost wickets at an alarming rate, which halted the flow of runs for the green shirts and were thus eventually restricted to 59/7.

Skipper Komal Khan remained the top-scorer for Pakistan with a run-a-ball 12, while Fatima and Areesha Ansari made 10 each.

Ellie McGee bagged two wickets for Ireland, while Sargent and Lara McBride made one scalp apiece.

Opting to bat first, Ireland registered a formidable total of 69/5 in nine overs, thanks to opening batter Walsh’s quickfire cameo at the top.

Walsh smashed five boundaries on her way to a 19-ball 31 and remained the top-scorer for Ireland, followed by Annabel Squires (13) and Sargent (10).

For Pakistan, Memoona Khalid picked up two wickets, while Quratulain Ahsen and Mahnoor Zeb struck out one batter apiece.
