Team Director of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars, Sameen Rana, made a major assertion regarding the selection of Singapore-based middle-order batter Tim David, stating that their rival teams laughed at their decision.

Sameen, while talking at a podcast, recalled an incident when Qalandars picked David, a rookie batter from Singapore, as a backup player in the last pick of the PSL 2021 draft.

He revealed that legendary players Wasim Akram and Moin Khan, who were associated with Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators respectively, laughed at the franchise’s decision.

“I remember, it was the last pick of the last round of the draft, being held at the Zoom, and we picked [Tim David]. So, Moin bhai and Wasim bhai laughed a lot and said ‘You picked a player from Singapore and only Qalandars can do such things’ but you know what happened next,” said Sameen Rana.

“Next year, Multan selected him in the first pick and then what he did in the IPL,” he added.

For the unversed, Tim David, who is currently a regular part of Australia’s T20I side, rose to fame with his PSL 2021 stint with the Qalandars as his commendable performances led him to a lucrative IPL contract and earned a place in one of the top international teams in the world.

The right-handed batter has now played four ODIs and 54 T20Is for Australia, scoring 1246 runs with the help of six half-centuries and the best score of 92 not out.
