MULTAN: Pakistan extended its lead to over 202 runs after scoring 109/3 in the second innings on the second day of the first Test against West Indies on Saturday.
After bundling out the West Indies for 137 runs, with a lead of over 90 runs, opening batters Shan Masood and Mohammad Huraira notched up a 50-run stand for the first wicket.
Pakistan then suffered their first blow when Jomel Warrican dismissed Mohammad Huraira LBW for 29, leaving the team at 67/1 in 15.4 overs.
After a gap of four overs, Warrican struck again, dismissing Babar Azam for five, putting early pressure on Pakistan at 89/2.
Masood’s dominance with the bat continued after an early dismissal as he notched up his 11th Test fifty, with Kamran Ghulam joining him at the crease.
With the batting going smoothly, the lack of communication between the batters dealt Pakistan another blow as shan was run out after scoring 52 from 70 deliveries, leaving the home side at 106/3 in 27.2 overs.
Vice-captain Saud Shakeel joined Kamran Ghulam at the crease, but play was cut short, and the day was called off due to bad light with Pakistan at 109/3 in 31 overs, with a lead of 202.
In response to Pakistan's first-innings total of 230 runs, the West Indies' batting collapsed under pressure.
Sajid Khan struck early, dismissing Mikyle Louis for just one run, leaving West Indies at 10/1. His next delivery sent Keacy Carty packing for a Golden Duck, making it 10/2.
Sajid's brilliance continued as he dismissed captain Kraigg Brathwaite for 11 and Kavem Hodge for four, reducing the West Indies to 22/4.
Noman Ali came in, removing Justin Greaves and Tevin Imlach, leaving the team at 51/7. His momentum didn’t stop as he claimed Alick Athanaze and Kevin Sinclair, bringing the West Indies to 91/9.
A 46-run partnership between Jomel Warrican and Jayden Seales delayed the inevitable, but Abrar Ahmed eventually took Seales' wicket, ending West Indies' innings at 137.
Noman Ali was the star, claiming five wickets, followed by Sajid Khan with four.
Pakistan was dismissed for 230 in their first innings, with Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel top-scoring with 71 and 84 runs.
Resuming at 143/4, Rizwan and Shakeel formed a 141-run partnership to stabilize the innings. However, after the drinks break, West Indies bowlers, led by Kevin Sinclair, applied pressure.
Shakeel fell for 84, and subsequent dismissals of Salman Ali Agha, Noman Ali, and Rizwan left Pakistan struggling at 200/7.
Despite resistance from Sajid Khan and Khurram Shahzad, Pakistan was bowled out for 230, with Sajid Khan falling as the last wicket for 18 runs.
