MULTAN: West Indies’ captain Kraigg Brathwaite on Thursday, acknowledged hosts Pakistan’s dominance in home conditions ahead of the Test series, scheduled to commence on January 17.
Brathwaite, while addressing the pre-series press conference here at the Multan Cricket Stadium, highlighted the most of the touring side’s unfamiliarity with the conditions in Pakistan but expressed determination to do well in the series.
The right-handed batter also acknowledged Pakistan as a tough opponent, especially in their home conditions, citing their recent come-from-behind series victory over England in October.
“We are very excited to be here in Pakistan, I personally had never come to Pakistan before and probably majority of players are also touring for the first time and we are really looking forward to doing well in the series. Pakistan are a strong side at home, so we look forward to doing well in these conditions.
“Our team’s performance will be quite crucial here, and obviously putting runs on the board is important but taking 20 wickets will be the key to win the Test match.
Prior to the two-match series, West Indies played a three-day practice match against Pakistan Shaheens in Islamabad, which was termed crucial by Kraigg Brathwaite in a build-up for the series.
“Our preparations are going well, we had few days in Islamabad where we played a practice game which went quite good for us as a group and we had our sessions here in Multan which were helpful as well.”
