KARACHI: Middle-order batter Tayyab Tahir scored an anchoring century to put Ghani Glass in a commanding position on the opening day of the second-round match of the President’s Trophy Grade-I against Eshaal Associates here at the Oval Academy on Tuesday.
Put into bat first, Ghani Glass got off to a shaky start to their innings as they lost both their openers Sharjeel Khan (three) and Kashif Ali (13) with just 26 runs on the board.
Following the early hiccup, Tayyab took the reins of Ghani Glass’ batting expedition and smashed a defiant century, which eventually lifted them to score 379 runs before getting bowled out.
The right-handed batter remained the top-scorer with 139 off 176 deliveries, studded with 20 boundaries.
His efforts were backed by skipper Saad Nasim and wicketkeeper batter Shahbaz Javed, who scored important half-centuries.
In response to Ghani Glass’ 379, Eshaal Associates were 0/0 as they managed to bat for only one over before the stumps were drawn.
In another second-round fixture, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had secured a 43-run lead over Pakistan Television (PTV), thanks to a combined bowling effort.
Mohammad Ismail’s four-wicket haul, followed by Saqib Khan and Mohammad Abbas, who took three and two, respectively, helped SBP to bowl out PTV for a meagre 93.
In response, the home side had accumulated 136/1, courtesy of Imran Butt’s unbeaten half-century.
At UBL Sports Complex, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) had scored 61/2 in response to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited’s (OGDCL) 197 in the first innings.
Abdul Rehman Muzammil remained the top-scorer for the OGDCL with a gutsy 68-run knock, while Mohammad Hamza took four wickets for the SNGPL.
At NBP Sports Complex, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) were 99/4 in response to Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) meagre first innings’ total of 137.
