India’s longer formats’ captain Rohit Sharma is likely to call time on his glittering international cricket after leading his side at the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, Indian media reported on Tuesday.

According to a report, Rohit, who has already retired from the shortest format after leading India to ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 glory, may retire from both remaining formats after the forthcoming eight-team tournament.

Sources within the BCCI, as reported by Indian media, revealed that it was mutually agreed upon that the top-order batter will lead the former champions in the prestigious tournament under the condition that he will hang up his boots afterward.

Sources further claimed that Rohit Sharma is likely to remain India’s captain for the upcoming white-ball home series against England, comprised of five T20Is and three ODIs.

For the unversed, Rohit’s last appearance in the longest format came in the Melbourne Test of the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia as he was rested for the final fixture due to his below-par performances as he managed to score only 31 runs across five innings.

Furthermore, it was reported earlier this week that Rohit Sharma is reportedly expected to visit Pakistan ahead of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 next month.

According to Indian media reports on Monday, this visit would mark a historic moment, as it’s been years since an Indian cricketer travelled to Pakistan for an international event.

The event will include an all-captains photo shoot and a press conference where skippers will share their expectations for the tournament.

For the Champions Trophy 2025, all eight participating captains are scheduled to take part in this event organised by the ICC.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet issued an official statement regarding Sharma's visit to Pakistan. Moreover, the Indian team is yet to announce its squad for the tournament.
