Peshawar Zalmi’s batting mentor Hashim Amla selected the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as one of his top three league picks citing its high standards, reported Dawn on Wednesday.

The former cricketer added that the PSL showcased a star-studded lineup with top quality cricket which placed the league in par with the Indian Premier League (IPL) and South Africa’s Mzansi Super League (MSL).

"In terms of the standard of cricket it is definitely among the top leagues because all teams here are pretty strong on paper and have superstars. I would say PSL is among the top three [leagues] in the world and can easily be classified alongside the IPL and the MSL [Mzansi Super League] in South Africa," he said.

Furthermore, the Protea hailed bowling standards and said that the country produced formidable bowlers.

"On paper the bowling standard seen in PSL is probably the highest and very competitive. Furthermore, Pakistan has a great heritage of having fantastic bowlers over a long period [of time] and in this PSL every team have got international bowlers who are exciting to watch."

The batting mentor also praised the crowds for their "extreme knowledge" and "passion".

"From the crowd prospective also, PSL is simply amazing because the fans here are not only very passionate about cricket but also extremely knowledgeable too," he said.

Meanwhile, Quetta Gladiators’ Shane Watson too held the same sentiments with Amla and said, last week, that bowling contributed to his opinion of the PSL being one of the toughest leagues.

"The quality of bowling, especially fast-bowling, is better than anywhere in the world. In every game, I am facing at least one or two guys that consistently bowl at 150 plus kph," Watson said.

"They have quality spin bowlers as well so it is an incredibly tough tournament."
