The news of Peshawar Zalmi’s Darren Sammy being conferred with Pakistan's highest civilian award garnered worldwide attention, and especially from across the border, which was fine and all, except for one glaring factual blunder committed by multiple Indian publications.

India Today and The Hindu were some of the websites that committed the blunder of reporting Sammy's Nishan-e-Pakistan as Nishan-e-Haider, which is a military gallantry award.

While Nishan-e-Pakistan is the highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Haider is reserved only for military officials and has so far been issued only 11 times and always post-humously. Sammy is a civilian and very much alive.

It was announced on Saturday that the Zalmi skipper, on March 23, will be awarded Nishan-e-Pakistan and honorary citizenship.
