Quetta Gladiators' big-boned batsman Azam Khan has revealed the mystery man responsible for his transformation from, let's say, unfit to fit enough to take the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 by storm.

Azam, the son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan, has had to fight off not just the nepotism jibes but also battled with weight issues, which had led his critics to body shame him and even declare him unfit to play cricket at the highest level.

He has silenced all his detractors in the PSL 2020 so far, playing two match-winning innings for the Gladiators in three matches, and is currently the fourth-highest scorer (110 runs) in the tournament.

Azam, in an interview with Cricket Pakistan, has revealed how and with whose help he managed to turn things around from a physical standpoint.

“I wanted to get fit because people were calling me overweight even after I scored some big runs. So I wanted to [rid myself of] that criticism and get fit,” said Azam, who admitted that he was concerned if he'd be able to retain the same power after shedding excess weight.

In came Shehzar Mohammad, the grandson of the legendary Hanif Mohammad, under whose guidance Azam trained for four months and lost 14kg.

“I didn’t knew would I be able to hit same big hits after training as I will lose my power and body might get stiff, but the way Shehzar took me throughout the training was so motivating that I myself was feeling much fitter and more powerful."
