Beleaguered cricketer Umar Akmal has reportedly confessed to conversing with a bookie following the findings of the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) anti-corruption unit (ACU), Geo News reported on Friday.
According to sources privy to the matter, the ACU had monitored the cricketer’s suspected phone calls with a bookie for four days, and reported the matter to chairman Ehsan Mani on Wednesday.
Mani, along with PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan, Quetta Gladiators head coach Moin Khan and team owner Nadeem Omar, met Akmal, who admitted his failure in reporting the matter to the PCB.
Following the meeting, the PCB on Thursday suspended the 29-year-old from partaking in all cricket-related activities until the investigation was concluded.
It saw Akmal drop out of the Quetta Gladiators squad on the eve of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020.
The Gladiators named Anwar Ali as Akmal's replacement.
