Pakistan on Friday seemed to save their energies for the knockout stages as they defeated Azerbaijan 40-30 in their third and final fixture of Group B at the Zahoor Elahi Stadium in Gujrat.

While it was clear that the hosts were way too powerful and experienced for the Azeris, they were not too keen to go out all guns blazing.

After taking a sizable lead in the opening periods, the burly Men in Green seemed to take the foot off the pedal, allowing Azerbaijan to close the gap.

By the full-time whistle, there was only a 10-point gap between the two sides but it does not mean that the contest was close by any means.

The victory means that Pakistan have won Group B and will meet Iran in the semi-final, whereas India are likely to be paired with Australia, barring a major upset.
