The group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 came to an end and the Super 8 round has begun with eight teams fighting for a spot in the semi-finals of the event.

The pool of eight teams is divided into two groups with India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Australia placed in Group 1 and the USA, England, West Indies and South Africa in Group 2.

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody remarked about Group 1 that Bangladesh and Afghanistan are going to give India and Australia a tough time in the Super 8 stage.

“India and Australia are seen as favourites but both of them will be very cautious with their game against Afghanistan and Bangladesh,” Moody stated while talking on ESPN Cricinfo.

He also expressed that he is not surprised that Afghanistan made it into the next round of the T20 World Cup as they have been phenomenal throughout the group stage.

Afghanistan won three of their four group games and lost only one against West Indies. They even defeated New Zealand and the Kiwis were eventually eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024.

“I don’t think we should be surprised that Afghanistan is in the Super 8 stage and are going to give any team in that group a real headache because I think they have got the best bowling attack for these conditions or certainly if they are not the best then they are right up there with the best with the qualify of their spinners,” Moody stated.

He also praised Fazalhaq Farooqi and called Afghanistan a threat in the T20 World Cup 2024.

“The form of Fazalhaq Farooqi with the new ball is top-notch. They are a genuine threat.”
