The upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 matches in Florida are likely to be affected by rain due to severe flood warning.

Ireland will face the United States in a crucial T20 World Cup 2024 Group A match today at the Central Broward Park in Lauderhill, Florida.

If the match is washed out, Ireland, Canada and Pakistan will be eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024 before the Super 8 stage. Meanwhile, the USA will qualify for the next round alongside India, who have already booked their spot in the Super 8.

Florida governor Ron DeSantis also declared a state of emergency in Broward County, where the cricket stadium is situated.

“If you know that there is no chance of matches taking place in Florida, then why not shift the matches? But there are logistical issues attached with it since fans, for instance, have already booked their flights and hotel and a sudden change will derail their plans. However, their plans will be derailed one way or the other since cricket won’t be played in Florida,” former Indian opener Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“Shifting the matches might results in less crowd and other challenges but at least we will have cricket. There is a lot of money riding on these matches and three washouts in a row won’t suit the broadcasters as well since they pay to cover these matches. Also, we should take into account the fact that these matches will decided the future of some of the teams in the tournament which is important as well.

“I think the ICC Governing Council should look into this because extraordinary circumstances demand extraordinary measures.”

According to The Weather Channel, there are high chances of thunderstorms during the match between Ireland and USA today. The match will begin at 10:30am local time.

After today’s match, two more important Group A matches are scheduled to be held in Florida in the coming days. India face Canada on Saturday and Pakistan meet Ireland on Sunday.
