Nepal's captain, Rohit Paudel is confident to defeat the Asian powerhouse Sri Lanka in their upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 group match in Florida.
There have been plenty of upsets in this tournament and Paudel is determined that his Nepal team is next in line.
Featuring South Africa, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh in the same group undoubtedly unnerves Nepal. Nevertheless, skipper Rohit Paudel remains confident in their ability to potentially upset Sri Lanka.
Despite having played just one T20 World Cup match, tomorrow's game holds the promise of making history—not solely due to the prospect of an upset, but because Paudel is determined to foster positive changes within the team.
"If you see in this World Cup, you'll see that the Associate team is beating Test-playing countries. So, it is a motivation for all of us, especially moving forward to tomorrow's game," Paudel said in a press conference.
"So as a team, we believe that we are going to win tomorrow and the way we have been preparing for the last couple of months and the way we have been playing cricket for the last one and a half years, I think the belief is always there in the team," he added.
Rohit Paudel believes Sri Lanka are the ones facing greater pressure to confront Nepal in the T20 World Cup. The Lankans enter this crucial match after suffering consecutive defeats against South Africa and Bangladesh, making it a must-win fixture.
"I think team Sri Lanka is under more pressure than us."
Nepal have a stronger chance than Sri Lanka of advancing to the Super 8 round, but only if they defeat South Africa and Bangladesh following their victory over the Sri Lankan team.
