LAHORE: Pakistan’s star javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, has been granted the opportunity to participate in two events as a part of his preparation ahead of the Paris Olympics this year.

The Athletics Federation of Pakistan has finalised his training for the forthcoming event. Coaches have allowed Nadeem to take part in two events prior to the Paris Olympics. He will be participating in an event taking place in Finland on, Tuesday, June 18 and another event on Monday, July 8, in Paris.

Currently, Pakistan’s star is undergoing a training at Punjab Stadium, Lahore, after completing his rehabilitation.

Moreover, the javelin thrower recently returned from his five-week training from South Africa. He was trained by the renowned javelin coach Terseus Liebenberg at the North West University facility.

Nadeem is trained by his local coach Salman Butt, who is collaborating with Liebenberg to create an effective plan for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) gold medalist. The training includes gym training, strength sessions, and throwing sessions.

Besides winning a gold medal at the CWG In 2022, the javelin thrower was the first Pakistani to earn a silver medal in the World Athletics Championship of 2023, organised in Budapest.

Last year, Arshad was awarded a gold medal in the 34th National games because of his longest throw of 78.02m in his third attempt.

Arshad said that his target has been to win the Olympic medal.

“It has been too long that Pakistan has not won any medal at the Olympics, what was it, 1992 that we won it last in hockey? I am aiming to win that medal really, and I will do all that I can in my power to achieve that,” Arshad said.
