KARACHI: The T20 World Cup 2024 will be held in the United States and the West Indies from June 1.
The event features 20 teams including Pakistan. Despite losses to Ireland and England recently, Pakistan team is geared up for the forthcoming tournament.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has brought in a renowned head coach Gary Kirsten, along with other names in the coaching staff, to boost the team’s chances.
The PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has urged the fans to support their team and avoid criticism.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam reflected on the defeat against England in the fourth T20I on Thursday and asked the middle-order batters to do better.
“First six overs, we played very well. After that, the momentum shifted as wickets fell. Our middle-order needs to step up. You need 2-3 good overs in the middle and in the death as well. England’s bowling was very good. Hopefully, we don’t do this in the World Cup. We made a couple of changes due to the injuries. Our powerplay was good. We have played good cricket in patches, “said Babar at the post-match presentation after the fourth T20I.
Additionally, the key players include new comers Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan.
Meanwhile, pacer Mohammad Amir and all-rounder Imad Wasim last played in the T20 World Cup in 2016 and 2021. The other eight players participated in the T20 World Cup held in Australia in 2022.
The team is eager to replicate the win of T20 World Cup of 2009, with high expectations from the players and the coaching staff.
Pakistan's record in the T20 World Cup has been impressive over the years. In 2009, Pakistan won the ICC T20 World Cup under the leadership of Younis Khan.In the first T20 World Cup held in South Africa in 2007, Pakistan played the final under the leadership of Shoaib Malik and in 2022, they also played the final under the captaincy of Babar but lost to England. In 2021, Pakistan played in the semi-finals but went down against Australia.
Pakistan team will be playing their first match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against the USA on, Thursday, June 6 in Dallas, USA. Moreover, the most awaited match between India and Pakistan will be held on Sunday, June 9.
