Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto asked for better pitches in the country in order to prepare well in the future ICC tournaments.

Bangladesh are in USA for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 which will be in the United States and West Indies from June 1. They were recently handed a major blow as they lost the three-match T20I series against the USA 2-1 in Housten this week.

Shanto was appointed captain across all formats in February earlier this year, replacing Shakib Al Hasan and the 25-year-old has urged that without playing on better pitches, they cannot improve their quality of cricket.

“First of all, we have to play on good wickets,” Shanto said. “Some people can take it as an excuse, but it is really a fact that we play very few matches on a good wicket.”

“It is difficult to change things in six months. If we continue on a good wicket for one or two years, then these strike-rates will improve,” he added.

Shakib will be participating in what is going to be his last World Cup along with another veteran Mahmudullah Riyad.

“Of course, I want them to play in the World Cup, giving their best,” Najmul said. “It is their decision when they will end their careers. As a captain, I would like them to share their experience with every player.”
