KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi lauded Indian star Virat Kohli's openness to visiting Pakistan during a tape ball event in Karachi on Saturday.

Afridi said that he wasn’t surprised by such a statement from the former Indian captain.

"I expected such a statement from Virat. I welcome Virat, whether he comes to the PSL or with the Indian team," Afridi said.

Kohli's statement regarding visiting Pakistan came during his talk with a Pakistani mountaineer, Shehroze Kashif, where he told the latter that wants to visit the country soon.

In the video, Kohli can be heard saying, "Give my regards to your family and all your friends. Hopefully, we visit Pakistan soon; everyone's started visiting now."

On the other hand, Afridi also gave his opinion on Pakistan's batting woes and said that the lineup needs a strong opening batter and he sees that talent in Saim Ayub.

"Saim has a lot of talent. I hope he performs well. Pakistan need a batter who can play well in the first six overs," he said, hinting at potential inconsistency with current openers.

Meanwhile, Afridi also expressed disappointment on the way batters Mohammad Haris and Sahibzada Farhan have been treated by the selectors.

Afridi also predicted favourable batting conditions in the USA for the upcoming World Cup in June and stated that Pakistan must play in the World Cup final.

The Pakistan team will leave for the T20 World Cup after the four-match T20I series against England which ends on May 30th. The first match will be against the co-hosts, USA on June 6th.

It must be noted Pakistan are yet to announce the squad for the T20 World Cup.
