The agent of Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies has hit back at the club's public attempts to pressure the Canada international into deciding on his future.

Davies is nearing the final 12 months of his current contract and has been presented with the opportunity to sign new terms with Bayern. However, the absence of an agreement recently prompted sporting director Max Eberl to caution Davies that he must reach a decision soon.

Adding complexity to the situation is interest from Real Madrid, who are hopeful that Davies will decline an extension and seek a discounted move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

As Bayern also seeks to appoint a new manager following the confirmation that Thomas Tuchel will step down this summer, Davies' agent argued that it was "unfair" to issue the 23-year-old with an ultimatum at this juncture.

"It's not fair that Alphonso is now being attacked," agent Nick Huoseh told BILD. "We were close to an agreement a year ago. Then the entire club management was replaced. We didn't hear anything for seven months. Although, during this time I tried to contact the club myself.

"Now we are given an ultimatum and are supposed to react within two weeks because the club is under pressure and took a long time to reposition itself at management level? That's not fair.

"It's a very important contract in Alphonso's career and we're supposed to make the decision - without knowing who the coach will be next season or what the team looks like. That's why we think it's unfair to go for the ultimatum reaction and will decide at the end of the season how to proceed when there is more clarity."

Bayern are believed to have proposed an extension for Davies until 2029, offering an annual salary ranging from €13m to €14m. However, the Canadian international is said to be pushing for closer to €20m.

With Bayern currently standing firm on their offer, Madrid are optimistic about enticing Davies away this summer. Should Davies decline the extension, Bayern will be open to transferring him, but an agreement on the transfer fee would be necessary.

While rumours suggest an asking price of €60m, reports from Spain indicate that Madrid are aiming to pay nearly half that amount. This comes in a summer where they are expected to invest significantly in securing the services of Kylian Mbappe.
