Sunrisers Hyderabad made history in the Indian Premier League as they recorded the highest score ever against the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.

The Sunrisers surpassed the previous record set by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who scored 263/5 against the Pune Warriors India back in 2013.

After Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya opted to field first, Australia’s World Cup hero Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma played aggressively, scoring 62 and 63 runs respectively.

Following their dismissals, Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen continued the onslaught against the Mumbai bowlers.

In the 2013 match, when Chris Gayle dominated against the Pune Warriors in Bengaluru, it was largely a one-man show. Although there were brief contributions from others, Gayle was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 175*, while the second highest score was 33.

SRH, however, took the modern route to the record. It was a proper team effort as first Head, then Sharma and finally Markram and Klaasen all smashed the leather out of the ball. The lowest strike rate among those four was Markram’s 150.00.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL match.

SRH made a couple of changes, bringing in Travis Head for Marco Jansen, while Jaydev Unadkat replacing T Natarajan, who has a niggle.

MI made one change, handing Kwena Maphaka his IPL debut at the expense of Luke Wood Both teams are coming into the match after losing their respective openers.
