Former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is set to begin the final stage of his career with a move to Major League Soccer (MLS), following the footsteps of Lionel Messi.

Giroud, 37, is likely to sign a deal with Los Angeles FC (LAFC) once his current deal with AC Milan expires on June 1. LAFC possess MLS discovery rights on the player which gives them the first option to sign him.

Giroud is likely to participate in the upcoming Euro 2024 as he is one of Didier Deschamps’ most trusted troops. The left-footed forward won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with the team by beating Croatia in the final.

Once Euro 2024 ends on July 14, the transfer window in MLS will open on July 18 after which Giroud will be able to sign a deal with LAFC.

Currently for AC Milan, the 37-year-old has scored 14 goals and provided nine assists across competitions in 36 matches this season. He has been one of their most important players as the club looks to finish within the top four to qualify for the Champions League.

Giroud is known for his time at Arsenal where he netted 105 goals and provided 41 assists in 253 appearances, where he also won the FA Cup three times.

Following his time with the Gunners, he joined Chelsea where he tasted European glory by winning the UEFA Champions League and Europa League along with yet another FA Cup.

Remember, Leo Messi joined Inter Miami on a free transfer in the summer of 2023 after his two-year-long spell at Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi was joined by his former Barcelona teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba at Miami soon.

The 2022 World Cup winner has 16 goals and seven assists in 19 matches with Miami ever since completing his move to the MLS club.
