Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano provided update on Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid links saying Los Blancos’ interest in the English international is “concrete”.

Arnold’s current deal with Liverpool ends in 2025 and there have been no negotiations for signing a new contract, Madrid have been keeping an eye on the situation for some time now.

The delay in the negotiations is likely due to the organisational changes that will take place at the club once Jurgen Klopp finally parts ways with the club in June as the search for the new manager is still underway.

Trent is one of the few players in this current Liverpool side who would choose not to remain with the Merseyside club following Klopp’s departure not only because he will have offers from multiple clubs, the English international may want to take on a new challenge after winning every possible trophy in England.

Should Trent not extend his contract, he will be free to sign a pre-contract with any team he wishes in January 2025 and Liverpool have no intentions of letting one of their best players go for free.

In a column in Caught Offside, Romano stated that while Madrid are keeping a close eye on Trent’s situation, they have not yet made any contact with the player.

“We know Trent Alexander-Arnold is a crucial player for Liverpool, but how likely is a new contract amid interest from Real Madrid? We’ll see – there is a fantastic relationship there between him and everyone at the club, so I’m sure Liverpool will try to do everything to keep him,” Romano wrote.

“Still, there is now interest from Real Madrid, they are monitoring the situation, though at the moment there is no direct contact with the player or anything like that. They are keeping a close eye on things, but it’s still early.

“It’s also worth saying that at the moment there is no direct conversation between Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool over a new contract. That’s why Real Madrid are monitoring the situation because they know there is no concrete negotiation there. It will then be important to see what happens under the new structure with Michael Edwards, and how these conversations will go.”
