The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has restored Haris Rauf’s central contract after the pacer appealed a few days ago, confirmed PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi.

Rauf’s central contract was terminated by the PCB in February 2024 following a probe into the pacer's refusal to join Pakistan’s Test squad for the tour of Australia 2023-24.

“We received a letter from Haris Rauf and we forwarded it to the tribunal. He stated [in that letter] that there was a misunderstanding and made a wrong decision and we have restored his contract,” confirmed Naqvi in a presser on Sunday.

“I was worried about him as he had already gotten injured [in the PSL] and there were some issues with the treatment, he is our star player and we will take care of that [his injury] via insurance.”

Representing Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 9, Rauf picked up an elbow injury and has been out of action since then.

During the presser, Naqvi was also asked about Imad Wasim, who on Saturday announced that he is taking back his retirement to be available for the Pakistan cricket team as the 2024 T20 World Cup is approaching.

Naqvi stated that the management talked with Imad only on one point, which was to take retirement back and play for Pakistan. There had been no discussion regarding the no objection certificate (NOCs) for league cricket.

“Our main requirement right now is the World Cup, which Wahab Riaz was overseeing. Everyone believed that the team should be strong right now and we just asked Imad to come back and play, that’s it. There was no discussion of the NOC [for league cricket],” Naqvi said.

Remember, the PCB chief announced a reorganised seven-member selection committee for the Pakistan cricket team.

The selection committee will consist of former cricketers Mohammad Yousuf, Wahab Riaz, Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq, said Naqvi, adding that the head coach, captain and analyst will be the other members.

He added that there will be two to three coordinators but they will not have any voting powers.
