IPL 2024: CSK head coach breaks silence on Dhoni's decision to step down from captaincy

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has provided an update about the future of MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier (IPL) 2024 after he stepped down from the role of captaincy.

The 42-year-old handed over the captaincy of CSK to young batter Ruturaj Gaikwad. Many were surprised when the 26-year-old attended the captains' photoshoot instead of Dhoni.

There have been a lot of speculations about him playing in the league for the entire season. but Fleming came up with a positive update for the fans.

In a press conference ahead of the IPL 2024 opener, he also shed light on the decision-making process behind the captaincy change.

"It was MS Dhoni's call with a lot of consideration looking at the future. The timing was good. It'll be a grooming process for Ruturaj."

“I am expecting MS Dhoni to play full season & do well – The body is a lot better than last year, and the desire to play & do well is like always," he added.

It must be noted that Dhoni had been captaining the CSK in IPL since 2008. He has taken the team to glory 5 times.

The 2024 IPL season is scheduled to commence on Friday, 22nd March, with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings facing off against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
