Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has revealed the reason behind West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford not being part of Quetta Gladiators' playing XI in the Eliminator 1 clash against Islamabad United.
The 25-year-old left the side midway and joined before the Eliminator 1 which Gladiators lost to United by 39 runs, ruling him out of the competition.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram revealed Gladiators head coach Shane Watson was the one who didn't include Rutherford.
The former Australian had already told the squad that nobody would leave the squad midway for any reason.
"He [Watson] told previously nobody would leave the side in the middle and if anyone comes back, he won't induct. Watson did something we Pakistanis can't even think and did the right thing," Wasim said on a local sports channel.
Meanwhile, former batter Hafeez said: "He set the right example but at the time management did the wrong thing to call him back."
It must be noted that the win saw United making their way to the second Eliminator where they are taking on Babar Azam's Peshawar Zalmi tonight.
United have won the toss and elected to bowl first. Zalmi made three changes while Shadab Khan's men opted to go unchanged.
Peshawar Zalmi: Babar Azam (c), Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris (wk), Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Hussain Talat, Rovman Powell, Aamir Jamal, Luke Wood, Mehran Mumtaz, Arif Yaqoob, Khurram Shahzad
Islamabad United: Shadab Khan (c), Alex Hales, Martin Guptill, Salman Ali Agha, Azam Khan (wk), Haider Ali, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Naseem Shah, Hunain Shah, Obed McCoy
Yesterday, the Gladiators crumbled during their 175-run chase as they fell 39 runs short.
Batting first, despite a slow start, Islamabad posted 174/9.
The winner between United and Zalmi will face Multan Sultans in the final on March 17.
