Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel's future is in danger as the German could be sacked immediately if the Bavarians failed to beat Lazio in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match, reported Sky Germany.

The German powerhouse has already announced that Tuchel will depart at the season's end following a dismal string of results, which has seen them slip ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race.

Their woes extended to the Champions League, where Bayern suffered a 1-0 defeat to Lazio in the first leg of the last-16 tie last month. Their place in the tournament hangs in the balance, dependent on their ability to overturn the deficit in the return leg on Tuesday.

Sky in Germany reported that Bayern could opt to terminate Tuchel's contract immediately if they fail to progress to the quarter-finals. Securing advancement to the next round is paramount for Bayern, with even a narrow victory likely to prolong Tuchel's tenure until the season's conclusion. However, elimination would make a contract termination probable.

Club officials are growing increasingly apprehensive about the team's performances, expressing concerns that Tuchel's commitment has waned since his departure was confirmed.

Currently enduring a run of one win from their last four Bundesliga matches, Bayern find themselves trailing Bayer Leverkusen by ten points in the league standings, with only ten matches remaining.

Bayern's hierarchy had hoped Tuchel would guide the team until the season's conclusion, making way for a potential move for top managerial target Xabi Alonso. However, they fear further damage may occur before the season's end without a change in management.

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed willingness to assume an interim role, though Bayern has yet to identify a preferred candidate to succeed Tuchel in the short term.
