Manchester United head coach Erik Ten Hag set a challenge for his troops as the Premier League season is entering its crucial face.
The Dutchman urged his players to treat every match as a final as the Red Devils have set their eyes on finishing in the top four to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Man Utd face Aston Villa in yet another important league match at Villa Park where they would aim to continue their unbeaten as the 20-time Premier League champions are yet to taste a defeat in 2024.
Man Utd sit sixth on the points table with 38 points from 23 matches while Villa are fourth with an eight-point lead over their next opponents in the same number of matches.
Giving an interview to Man Utd media, Tan Hag admitted that the team’s position isn’t that great and they need to step up soon to make sure that the club finishes inside the top four.
“Yeah, we know where we are in the league table, so we have to catch up. So that means and we have said that to each other, every game is a final for us,” Ten Hag said.
“So that has to be the approach for every game. This is a final. And yeah we have to take the challenge and we have to rise to the occasion in every final. So we're looking forward. We have energy, also from the last games we have confidence. So now we have to take that in that game. But yeah, we have to start on zero.”
Ten Hag will be without five players against Unai Emery’s side. Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will all miss the clash at the Villa Park.
Remember, Man United have been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after finishing last in their group, while they exited the Carabao Cup after losing to Newcastle United 3-0 back in November 2023.
