Jude Bellingham starred once again as Real Madrid dominated Girona 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday to go top of La Liga with a decisive five-point lead.
Bellingham scored twice in Los Blancos’ most important match of the season so far and became just the first Real Madrid to score 15 La Liga goals in a season in the 21st century.
There are still 14 matches to play in the league and with the rate the Englishman is scoring goals, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he nets 8-10 goals more in La Liga by the end of the season.
Vinicius Junior opened the scoring for the home side with a thunderbolt from outside the box in the 6th minute. Madrid continued to dominate the game and the Brazilian provided another moment of magic when he assisted Bellingham in the 35th minute with an outside-the-foot pass.
Vinicius praised Bellingham after the match saying the Englishman is a star.
“Jude is a star, he scores a lot of goals and I hope he can keep going,” Vinicius told Real Madrid TV. “Bellingham has been the best this season, we’re doing things well and we’re happy because we’re a family.”
On the other hand, Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti called Vinicius the best player in the world after his world-class performance against Girona.
“When he plays like this and with this attitude, he’s the best in the world, in my personal opinion,” said the Italian.
All of Real Madrid’s centre-backs — Eder Militao, David Alaba, Nacho Fernandez, and Antonio Rudiger — are injured and Ancelotti had to go with the partnership of Aurelien Tchouameni and Dani Carvajal.
“Today we beat the world record for centre-back injuries,” joked Ancelotti. “I asked Carvajal if he'd like to be a right or left centre-back. He said he doesn't care. Tchouameni felt more comfortable on the right, that's why I put him on the left. He looked like he played 400 matches there.”
