Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has clarified that discussions regarding a potential return to the national team did not take place with Pakistan T20I captain Shaheen Afridi during their participation in the ongoing International League T20 (ILT20).

In a conversation with a local sports website, the 35-year-old provided some advice to his younger counterpart, stressing that Shaheen should trust his instincts and prioritize the welfare of Pakistan.

"Shaheen is like my younger brother. I would advise him to approach everything with sincerity, prioritizing what is in the best interest of Pakistan. He has people around him, who can give him good suggestions," Imad said.

Imad also provided his viewpoint on the T20I series against New Zealand, in which Pakistan suffered a 4-1 defeat. He remarked on Babar Azam's effective adjustment to the one-down position, achieving three consecutive fifties.

He recommended that Mohammad Rizwan should be ready to adjust if required to bat lower in the order.

"Babar has adapted very well after batting at one down position. He scored three consecutive fifties. Similarly, Rizwan should adapt as well if he is asked to bat down the order," Imad said.

"Shaheen did a good thing that he checked different opening combinations. It would be better for him if he continues to check different combinations before the World Cup. If the new combinations don’t work, then they can go back to Babar and Rizwan as the opening pair," he concluded.

It must be noted Imad announced his retirement from international cricket last year, bringing an end to a career that spanned eight years. The 34-year-old Imad made his international debut in May 2015 against Zimbabwe and went on to represent Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is.
