Real Madrid is currently identifying the possible options to replace their injured defender Antonio Rudiger for the match against Atletico Madrid, which will be played on February 4 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Rudiger suffered a knock on his thigh during the first half against Getafe. The German tackled to win the ball against Mason Greenwood but ended up hitting his thigh to the opponent’s knee and was ultimately substituted.

Rudiger is not currently training with the team as he is in “unbearable” pain, according to Diario AS. It is impossible that the 30-year-old would be at his 100% for the match against Atletico and the likelihood of his participation is very thin.

Los Blancos are evaluating their options to replace the German. As per sources close to the club, Dani Carvajal is the strongest candidate to partner with Nacho Fernandez during the Madrid derby.

However, if due to unforeseen circumstances Carvajal couldn’t play as the centre-back, Carlo Ancelotti will turn to Ferland Mendy and Eduardo Camavinga to play at the position.

“Rudiger? He is better now but we will evaluate him tomorrow. He will be in the squad,” Ancelotti said in a pre-match presser. “I will decide tomorrow if Rudiger plays or not.

"Camavinga is an option at CB. He's very fast and wins duels. He, Carvajal and Mendy are options and I think they would do very well,” the Italian added.

The Whites’ defensive midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni was booked during Los Blancos’ 2-0 victory over Getafe and was ruled out of the next match following his fifth suspension in the league.

Real Madrid appealed to overturn the suspension of the Frenchman but their request was denied.

Remember, Real Madrid are already without two of their first-choice centre-backs, Eder Militao and David Alaba, as both the players tore their ACL earlier this season.
