Starc made a sensational comeback to IPL  following an eight-year absence - Cricket Australia

Australia women's team captain and Mitchell Starc's wife, Alyssa Healy, remarked that the pacer's record-breaking price tag was a splendid validation of the years of hard work he has dedicated and a fitting reward for prioritising his nation.

During the landmark IPL 2024 auction, Starc made a sensational comeback to the Indian Premier League following an eight-year absence. His signing with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at an astonishing bid of INR. 24.75 crore made him the costliest player in IPL history.

Numerous teams vied for Starc during the bidding process, narrowing it down to a tussle between KKR and Gujarat Titans. Both were resolute in securing the pacer, yet ultimately, Gujarat Titans withdrew, allowing Kolkata to clinch the deal.

The intense bidding war for Starc saw him surpass the previous record held by fellow Australian Pat Cummins, who was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.5 crore.

Healy, presently in India for the one-off Test against the Indian women's team, conveyed to the media her elation for Starc. The Australian skipper remarked that this moment stood as a remarkable validation of his hard work and the decisions he made over the past eight years, putting his country first.

"Look, it is what it is, It is an amazing moment for Mitch. It is a great justification for the hard work he has put in and (for) probably some of the choices he has made over the last eight years to put his country first," said Healy.

There was a video circulating on social media showing Healy enjoying a glass of beer after Starc was bought by KKR.

However, the Australian skipper said that it wasn't the case and she was actually in the gym watching things unfold in the auction.

"I was actually in the gym, not thinking of beers, working hard (and) watching it all unfold. (It was an) amazing day for him and Pat (Cummins)," said Healy.
