The 13th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup held in India. The most successful team in World Cup history, Australia ended up winning yet another World Cup, after they defeated Team India in the final on 19th November 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad
The tournament saw many great performers and in this article, we dig deep into the individual stats of the players and team of the tournament of World Cup 2023.
1- Rohit Sharma
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is our first choice for the opening slot. The 36-year-old was praised throughout the event for having a remarkable tournament. With an average of 50+ with the bat and a strike rate of 120+, Rohit provided India the platform with the bat on which the other batters could capitalise.
2- Travis Head
Travis Head, on the other hand, will be the second opener of the side. Although he missed the initial phase of the tournament, but the impact he created later in the tournament was outstanding. Head was the Player of the Match in the semi-final as well as in the final.
3- Quinton de Kock
South African wicketkeeper batter, Quinton de Kock will have the wicket-keeping responsibility in this lineup. The left-hander struck four centuries in the event and inflicted 20 dismissals (most in the tournament) behind the wicket. His consistency played a key role for the South African side in their 2023 World Cup campaign.
4- Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli holds the spot at No.4 as he created history in the World Cup 2023 when he became the batter with the most ODI hundreds (50). With over 700 runs, he also became the batter with the most runs in a single World Cup edition.
He played multiple heroic knocks in the event and proved once again that he is the modern-era legend of ODI cricket. Virat was also named as Player of the Tournament of World Cup 2023.
5- Daryl Mitchell
In at five would be the New Zealand batter, Daryl Mitchell. With two half-centuries and as many centuries, Daryl Mitchell was highly consistent with the bat in this World Cup. Both of his centuries came against the strong bowling unit of India.
6 - Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell also makes it to the team of the tournament. Maxwell proved his worth brilliantly in this tournament. He became the first cricketer to score an ODI double hundred while chasing. Maxwell’s batting average was well over 60 and his strike rate was 150. Meanwhile, with the ball, he managed to pick up six wickets and kept his economy rate under 5.
7- Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja proved instrumental with his all-round prowess, significantly contributing to his team's equilibrium. While he didn't secure any centuries or fifties with the bat, his 120 runs at an average of 40.00 and a strike rate of 101.69 were pivotal. Notably, he played a pivotal role in clinching India's close group-stage encounter against New Zealand.
However, it was Jadeja's exceptional bowling that truly shone; he claimed 16 wickets at an average of 24.87, with an economy rate of 4.25. His standout performance was highlighted by a five-wicket haul, recording his best figures at 5-33. Jadeja's ability to maintain an economy rate of less than four runs an over in five out of India's 11 matches underscored his immense value to the team.
8- Pat Cummins (C)
Pat Cummins became the 5th World Cup-winning captain of Australia. His numbers might not tell how good he actually was in the World Cup 2023. His game plans, his field setups and his overall mindset was tremendous in this World Cup. His decision to opt for bowling in the World Cup final surprised many, but he proved it right by restricting India to a low total and then leading Australia to a 6th World Cup win.
Cummins managed 15 wickets in the event. With the bat, he played a great supporting role with Maxwell during the game against Afghanistan. His knock of 14(29)* in the semi-final might not look big on paper, but it was extremely crucial too.
9- Mohammed Shami
India's Mohammad Shami took the most wickets in the World Cup 2023 despite missing out on the initial four matches. Shami took three fifers in the event, including a seven-wicket haul in the semi-final. He finished the event with 24 wickets.

Along with Shami, Jasprit Bumrah was also quite brilliant, especially with the economy rate. Bumrah finished as the fourth-highest wicket-taker (20) of the event. His economy rate was under 5 throughout the event, which is outstanding in modern-day cricket.
11- Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa finished the World Cup 2023 as the highest wicket-taking spinner. He started off with a couple of dull performances, but he bounced back brilliantly in the event. He took 3 4-wicket hauls in the tournament and in batting-friendly conditions in India, he managed to end the tournament with keeping his economy rate under 6.
12th Man - Kuldeep Yadav
Left-arm wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav makes it to the team of the tournament as 12th Man. Kuldeep was brilliant in some phases of the event. His variety was quite difficult to read for the batters and on some surfaces, he was a really tricky bowler to bat against.
