Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim and former cricketer Mohammad Amir have shared their views on Babar Azam's position in the T20I side.
While speaking during Geo News' World Cup 2023 show 'Haarna Manah Hai', both cricketers suggested that Babar Azam might not be suited for the shorter format of the game going forward.
Imad Wasim addressed the question, describing it as a "challenging decision" and suggesting that Babar Azam may not justify a spot in the T20I squad.
Amir said: "Babar doesn't deserve to be in the T20 side." Meanwhile, Imad agreed with Amir and said: "It is a tough call."
It must be noted Babar is Pakistan's leading run-getter in the shorter format. He has played 104 T20 international matches in which he scored 3485 runs at an average of 41.48.
Remember, Babar Azam stepped down as captain across three formats on November 15. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Shaheen Afridi as captain of the T20I side while Shan Masood as the Test captain.
Shan’s first assignment as captain will be a three-match Test series against Australia in Australia starting from 14 December. He has been appointed captain till the end of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25.
Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah will lead Pakistan Men’s Team in the T20I format and his first assignment as captain will be the five-match T20I series in New Zealand from 12 to 21 January.
