Australia's Glenn Maxwell has put up a stunning show against Afghanistan in a crucial ICC World Cup 2023 fixture against Afghanistan.
Glenn Maxwell played one of the greatest innings in the history of the World Cup, hitting an astonishing unbeaten double century, as Australia defeated Afghanistan by three wickets at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, India, on Tuesday.
After being 91/7 in chase of 292, Maxwell smashed his first-ever double century while chasing.
The legendary win saw the Aussies qualify for the semi-final of the World Cup directly as they now sit third on the points table with 12 points with one more match to play.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf credited Maxwell as Australia's win will help Pakistan since they have a chance of finishing in the final four.
"Maxwell playing for Pakistan here? Australia’s win definitely helps Pakistan. Great partnership between these two [Maxwell and Cummins]," Yousuf wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
On the other hand, he also hailed Afghanistan for putting a great fight in the tournament.
"Credit to Afghanistan as well as they played exceptionally well so far in this tournament & they won’t let this match go. Good game so far," he added.
It must be noted that Maxwell became the first player to score 2 centuries in a WC edition batting at No. 5 or lower. He is also the only batter to score three centuries batting at No.5 or lower.
