Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana opened up on his relationship with former United captain Harry Maguire saying that the two spoke to each other before taking off for Germany.
Maguire has been struggling to get regular playing time as United's boss Erik Ten Hag not only prefers other defenders over him but also stripped him of the club's captaincy.
Onana was asked in a presser about his relation with the English defender as the Red Devils prepare to take on Bayern Munich in a UEFA Champions League group stage encounter on Wednesday.
"Harry’s a very good guy, I have a good relationship with him, I spoke to him this morning before we took off,” the goalkeeper said.
“What happened there was done straight after the game. I don’t think we have to give too much to what happened, we are big guys and what happened on the pitch stays on the pitch, we have a good relationship.”
Onana has been seen lashing out at the defender on the pitch quite a few times and his actions haven't gone unnoticed as he has been outed by fans as well as former footballers.
However, Onana insisted that his actions are only limited to the pitch and they only come due to high expectations for his backline.
“I’m a very passionate player, I demand a lot of my defenders. We are in this together, being part of a big club is something great,” he said.
" Manchester United is huge, I’m happy to be here. Replacing David [de Gea] isn’t something easy, the start of the season is not what we want. It will come, I’m very confident.
“We all have to step up. We didn’t start well but I’m confident we’ll get it right. When I see how we’re working I’m confident and excited.”
It must be noted that Man United are having an injury crisis with key players like Raphael Varane, Mason Mount, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Luke Shaw missing the encounter with the German champions.
