FC Barcelona (FCB) manager Xavi Hernandez has denied rumours of Neymar Junior joining Barca saying that he is not in his plans.
After a failed transfer of Lionel Messi who announced yesterday (June 7) that he will be joining the American club Inter Miami, the Catalan club are now looking for a number of players to strengthen the squad this summer.
“I’m surprised… he’s not in our plan”. “I really like Ney as a friend, but we have different priorities,” Xavi said on rumours of Neymar potentially back to Barça
The 43-year-old also confirmed that his priority is to sign at least two midfielders to cover up for the departure of Sergio Busquets, who left the club after 14 years.
“I need two signings in midfield. I lack an interior and with Busquets' departure, we also need a pivot,” Xavi said. “This has to be the priority.”
Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who has been on the radar of the Catalan club since January, is still waiting for the call from Spain so he could fulfil his dream of wearing the Blaugrana’s colours.
Sofyan’s brother Nordin Amrabat told ESPN on Thursday (June 8) that he will not join West Ham as he wants to play at the top level while also confirming that there are many clubs interested in the Moroccan star.
"Sofyan to West Ham? No, he wants to go to the top and his desire is to play in Spain. At Barcelona, he is high on the list but you know Barça’s financial situation," ESPN reported. "There are more clubs interested in Sofyan.”
Barcelona, who were once heavily interested in Joshua Kimmich, Bernardo Silva and Martin Zubimendi, feels that the landing of these players would be very difficult due to their financial issues according to the Spanish newspaper Sport.
Ilkay Gundogan of Manchester City, who runs out of the contract may also end up renewing with the Premier League champions as per the Spanish journalist Juan Jimenez Salvado.
It must be noted that Gundogan was heavily linked to the Catalan club for a long time.
