Spanish winger Marco Asensio is set to join French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after leaving Real Madrid.

The development was confirmed by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano on Sunday.

“Paris Saint-Germain are set to complete the signing of Marco Asensio, here we go — confirmed. Verbal agreement in place,” Romano tweeted.

“Contract will be valid until June 2027, Luis Campos is on it. Expectation is to get it signed next week after his farewell to Real Madrid fans,” he added.

Earlier, Real Madrid announced on Saturday that Asensio will leave the club at the end of the current season.

Asensio joined Madrid in 2015 and made 285 appearances during his time at the club.

“Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude and affection for Marco Asensio, a player who has defended our crest and our shirt for seven seasons,” the Spanish club said in a press release.

“He arrived at Real Madrid when he was only 20 years old and has managed to enter the history of our club as part of a team that has starred in one of our most successful periods,” it added.

Asensio has won 17 titles at Real Madrid, which included three European Cups, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, three La Liga, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups.

“Real Madrid fans will never forget his exemplary career and behavior during all this time. Real Madrid is and will always be his home, and he wishes him and his entire family good luck in this new phase,” the statement added.

Asensio, who will leave the club as a free agent, scored 61 goals and notched up 32 assists for Real Madrid.
