Real Madrid confirm Marco Asensio’s departure

He won 17 titles with the Los Blancos

Real Madrid announced on Saturday that winger Marco Asensio will leave the club at the end of the current season.

Asensio joined Madrid in 2015 and made 285 appearances during his time at the club.

“Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude and affection for Marco Asensio, a player who has defended our crest and our shirt for seven seasons,” the Spanish club said in a press release.

“He arrived at Real Madrid when he was only 20 years old and has managed to enter the history of our club as part of a team that has starred in one of our most successful periods,” it added.

Marco Asensio has won 17 titles at Real Madrid, which included three European Cups, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, three La Liga, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups.

“Real Madrid fans will never forget his exemplary career and behavior during all this time. Real Madrid is and will always be his home, and he wishes him and his entire family good luck in this new phase,” the statement added.

Asensio, who will leave the club as a free agent, scored 61 goals and notched up 32 assists for Real Madrid.

French club Paris Saint-Germain is among the clubs interested in signing Asensio, meanwhile English Premier League club Aston Villa have also submitted a proposal to rope in the Spanish star.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid considering signing Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane in order to bolster their squad for next season.

“You're really interested in what's going to happen next season. I can talk about my future, not the future of the squad, which is underway. Kane is a top player, but he's a Tottenham player and we have to respect him and Tottenham,” manager Carlo Ancelotti said in a press conference on Saturday.
