"If someone applies for a job, the least they deserve is a proper answer," says Jalaluddin.

Fallen candidates for Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) coaching positions have come forward to tell the tales of PCB’s “lack of professionalism” and how its latest recruitment drive “is just for show”.

The PCB had publicly advertised its various vacant coaching positions, including the coveted head, bowling and batting jobs.

Several foreign and local names had applied for the roles, the interviews for which were conducted on Thursday.

Batting legend Mohammad Yousuf, who claims that he was promised a role with the Under-19 team only to be snubbed eventually, questioned what the point was of “this drama”.

“When everything was decided beforehand, then what was the point of staging this drama?” he asked.

Yousuf said that the standard of the B team could have been raised, had the coaches been appointed on merit. It is pertinent to mention here that Yousuf was snubbed in favour of Ijaz Ahmed.

Jalaluddin, the first fast bowler in cricket history to claim a hat-trick, had also applied for the bowling coach’s position, but he says that the PCB did not even acknowledge his application.

“I had applied for the bowling coach but did not get any response,” he said. “If anyone had been shortlisted, then they should have been informed.

“Now that Waqar Younis is the sole candidate, then what’s even the point of an interview?”

Jalaluddin said that he does not have a problem with the PCB but if someone applies for a job, the least they deserve is a proper answer.

“There is no professionalism in the PCB. Everything is just for show. Things had been decided in advanced. The advertisements were just to fool people.”
