Peshawar Zalmi head coach Mohammad Akram has reportedly withdrawn his application for the Pakistan bowling coaching job, leaving the field open for Waqar Younis to grab the gig, Samaa Sports reported on Thursday.
Waqar, thanks to his legendary playing career and experience, was considered a leading candidate for the job even since he voiced his intention to apply for the position.
He was, however, expected to get competition from Akram, who did not have anywhere near a career as Waqar's, but has led Zalmi to the finals in each of the last three Pakistan Super League (PSL) tournaments.
Akram's withdrawal, however, paves the way for Waqar as it is hard to imagine that the PCB would give Jalaluddin or Yasir Arafat the nod ahead of the Burewala Express.
